Busking in Asheville is a privilege. Asheville, NC is a city in the mountains and there really isn’t so much noise that one needs to bring an amplifier and loud speakers to be heard. Busking is a craft of which a person or group perform acoustically and that in the broader sense is freedom of speech. If people don’t like your music, they can step away. Bringing amplifiers and loud speakers, first is trying to gain an unfair advantage and it also is imposing your will on others that may not think you are as fantastic as you are. That’s what makes Asheville a neat town because you can walk thirty feet and see another act. Asheville hosts many of the best buskers in the world, and it is hard to compete with great musicians. For the sake of fairness, and just plain doing what’s right, leave the amps at home. I’m not talking about an electric piano that equals acoustic volume, you guys know what I mean. Practice up, take it serious if you are going to busk in Asheville. If you are good and pull a crowd, it can be very rewarding. If you aren’t prepared, you could go home frustrated. So when you come out to busk, be ready to give it all you got.
